Riga City Council invites to enter educational courses and practice of project management

The International Projects Department of Riga City Council City development department invites young people with a higher education and students of the last courses under 25 years old who are presently unemployment due to lack of work experience, to enter educational courses and practice of projects management in Riga City Council structural subdivisions.

Educating of the young people will be carried out within the framework of the European Social Fund project “Creation of practice places for young people – unemployed persons with a higher education in the Riga City Council structural subdivisions”. The International Projects Department of the City Development Department in collaboration with the State employment agency and some other Riga City Council departments joined the project.

The aim of the European Social Fund project “Creation of practice places for young people – unemployed persons with higher education in Riga City Council structural subdivisions” is to teach project management to forty young people under 25 years old with a higher education, who due to lack of experience did not find interesting work. The project was begun in 2005 and will finish in the summer of 2008.

The leader of International Projects Department of Riga City Council City Development Department Mareks Zeltinsh supposes that one of the most substantial obstacles that interfere with the universities graduating students to apply for well-paid and interesting jobs is lack of experience and practice. “If you have knowledge, there is such profession claimed as a projects leader, getting project practice in Riga City Council, young people get huge experience, and can successfully compete at the labor market”, – M.Zeltinsh underlines.

From the planned forty young people to take part in the project who study and get practice in Riga City Council, 16 people are already trained and presently have permanent work. Some of them have chosen the departments of Riga City Council as their place of work. At the same time others found interesting jobs in State and private structures. In general it is planned to create twenty new work places in the structural subdivisions of the Riga City Council during the project till the summer of 2008.

The Riga City Council City Development Department invites young people with a higher education in the area of social sciences, economics, enterprise management, information technologies and law. Evaluating the candidatures of applicants, knowledge of English and ability to work on a computer will be taken into account as well.

Within the framework of project young people get individual psychotherapy consultations to liquidate or decrease psychological problems that block the possibility to use their professional potential.

In order to apply for participation in the project, it is necessary to contact the projects leader at the Department of International Projects of the Riga City Council City Development Department Amanda Salenietce by telephone at 67105515, or personally come to the secretary of the project to Skolas iela 12a-3 during working days from 9:00 to 17:00.

One of the project participants, Liene Chakane, who presently works as the project leader in the Latvian Artists Union, reckons that the offered educational course and practice of project management gave her practical experience that is necessary for her work.

The project “Creation of practice places for young people – unemployed persons with higher education in Riga City Council structural subdivisions” is conducted at the co-financing of the Riga City Council and European Social fund. The general budget of project amounts to LVL 332 278.
